compliance with an order, request or law or submission to another’s authority

where people fail to act and help someone in need when others are present
diffusion of responsibility
where lots of bystanders see a victim and each individual takes less responsibility as they think someone else will help, each individual perceives responsibility of helping to be shared among those present - so no one helps
altruism
unselfish concern for others - do it because you want to with no reward (not due to duty, loyalty, religion) - cares for the well-being of others
