Q

What are some management strategies for Redhead Beach?

A

Redhead Beach has many management strategies in place. Walkways to the beach with rubber matting, as well as ‘dune fences’ to trap sand and help build the dunes have been implemented as a way to reduce erosion in the dunes. There are signs, fences, and public bins everywhere to reduce littering and trespassing on areas which shouldn’t be accessed. A ‘land care’ group also helps with the management of this beach and its dunes. In the dunes, these volunteers revegetate the plants as well as get rid of invasive species and weeds. A ‘habitat corridor’ has been implemented to close the gap between industrialised areas in order to allow migrating animals across. To trap and filter storm water before going back into the ocean, a ‘gross pollutant trap’ was added to Redhead Beach as well.
