The specific physical features defining the location of a place.
Situation
The location of a place in relation to other places or larger features.
Developing nation
A country where most people have a lower standard of living and less access to goods & services than people in developed nations.
Developed nation
A country where there is a higher level of income, industrialization, and higher modernization.
Absolute location
The position of a place that can be expressed by a grid reference.
Relative location
The location of a place described in relation to another place.
Thematic map
A map which shows one subject or theme, such as population or climate.
Rural areas

Urban settlement
A community where 1000 or more people live close together.
Urban planner
People who are trained to design communities and public spaces.
Urbanization
The increase of urban areas, usually the spread of cities & large communities into rural areas.
Suburban settlements
Newer communities found at the edges of established cities.
Topographic map
A very detailed map showing the physical and human features through the use of contour lines and other symbols.
Geography
The study of the earth and people’s relationship to it.
