Tragedy
A form of theatre when the protagonist is in a great disaster.
Tragic protagonists
A hero typically with heroic traits in a tragedy
antagonist
The opposition of the protagonist (the main character)
extended metaphor
A version of metaphor that takes up many lines
soliloquy
When a character speaks their thoughts out loud
aside
A remark in the play that is purposely said out loud that is only to be heard from the audience
hubris
Hubris is when somebody is overconfident about themselves
hamartia
A great mistake that leads to a dilema for the protagonist to fix or overcome
catharsis
Catharsis is the process of recognising which could cause intense emotions or relief
dramatic irony
Dramatic irony is when the audience or reader are let into more information about the situation than the character has.
monologue
This is when a certain (singular) character says their speach which goes on for mabye a paragraph
unrequited love
It’s when one person is strongly attracted to another but the ‘other’ doesn’t love them back the same way
courtly love
A courtly love is love between a chival knight/prince and (usually) a married woman
Volatile
When something is Volatile, it is something tense and serious that is gradually getting worse
emotional
When someone is emotional, they are feeling an intense feeling/ emotion about something
impetuous
Acting that is done carelessly or forcefully
machismo
This is a great, tough prode in masculinity
antithesis
When something is antithesis it is the complete opposite of another (in a contrast to something else)
iambic pentameter
It’s a form of verse that consists of an unstressed syllable with a consecutive stressed syllable
sonnet
A fourteen line poem often with ten syllables for every line
shared lines
Lines in iambic verse that are said by two or more characters together often used to show a conection between the two
rhyming couplets
A pair of consecutive rhyming lines whoch are typically the same length
protagonist
The main character in the play which is against the antagonist
prose
A written or spoken, basic language
