definitions Flashcards
what is the connective tissue?
the connective tissue supports and connects different parts of the body. examples of a connective tissue could be fat, cartilage and bones
what is the nervous tissue?
the nervous tissue transmits and receives nerve impulses. some examples of the nervous tissue are the brain, nerves and spinal chord.
what is the muscle tissue?
the muscle tissue contracts to cause motion. they help your body move, pump blood and even move food along your intestines.
what is the epithelial tissue?
the epithelial tissue covers the surface of your body, lines the inside of organs
what are the four types of animal tissue?
connective tissue, nervous tissue, epithelial tissue, and muscle tissue
what is the protective tissue?
form a covering on most plants that help prevent water loss and protects the plant.
what is the photosynthetic tissue?
transforms the suns energy into sugar
what organs make up of what two organ systems?
root system ( below ground ) and the shoot system ( anything above ground )
what is a tissue?
a tissue is a group of specialized cells in an organism that have similar structure and function.
what is an organ?
an organism is a group of tissues in an organism that performs a specific task.
organ system
organs that work together to perform specific functions.
skeletal system
provides support for movement and attachment points for other tissues and protection of other organs
muscular system
enables movement from place to place and move substances throughout the body
circulatory system
moves nutrients, gases and wastes through the body
respiratory system
allows oxygen to enter the body and waste carbon dioxide to exit your body
nervous system
sends and receives nerve messages, controls behaviour and movement and processes such as digestion and circulation
digestive system
filters blood and removed wastes and extra water from the body
itegumentary system
help maintain normal body temperatures and protect the body
endocrine system
produces hormones
lymphatic system
destroys and removed any invading organisms and abnormal cells
reproductive system
produces offspring
what is respiration
a process that involves the intake of oxygen and the discharge of carbon dioxide
what are the three types of plant cells issues in organs? what organs of a plant are they found in?
protective, photosynthetic, transport. they are found in the leaf stem and roots.
