Written statements describing the levels of knowledge, skills, and values expected of residents completing the program.
Competencies
The level of knowledge, skills, and values required by residents to perform independently an aspect of dental practice after completing the program.
Competent
Desirable condition, practice or documentation indicating the freedom or liberty to follow a suggested alternative.
Examples of evidence to demonstrate compliance
Educational goals that describe what the resident will be able to do upon completion of the program. These should describe the resident’s abilities rather than the educational experiences they participate in.

Indicates an imperative or duty; an essential or indispensable item; mandatory.
Must
Those patients whose medical, physical, psychological, cognitive or social situations make it necessary to modify normal dental routines in order to provide dental treatment for that individual.
Patients with special needs
These individuals include, but are not limited to, people with developmental disabilities, cognitive impairment, complex medical conditions, significant physical limitations, and/or other vulnerable populations.
