Authors note: the definition of field modifications was revised for the 2013 addition to clarify that the field modifications are changes to a fire door not permitted or addressed by NFPA 80. Sub section 4.1.3 outlines various changes that can be made to a door – either in the field or as part of repairing the door for installation – that are not required to be considered field modifications and are not subject to provisions of 5.1.5. IfA modification or alteration is made to a bar door outside of what is included in 5.1.5, it should be treated as a field modification.
