Acceptable level of safety
the minimum safety objective(s) acceptable to the oversight authority to be achieved by the Operator/AMOs/service providers while conducting their core business functions
Accident
An occurrence associated with tge operation of an a/c which takes place between the time any person boards the a/c with the intention of flight untik such time as all such persons have disembarked, in which: A person is fatally or seriously injured, the a/c sustains damage or technical failure, the a/c is missing or is completely inaccessible, serious injury.
Accountable Manager
The person who has corporate authority for ensuring that all operations and maintenance activities can be finances and carried out to the standards required by the authority.
Aircraft (a/c)
any machine that can derive support in the atmosphere from the reactions of the air other than the reactions of the air against the earth’s surface
Airport (aerodrome)
a place where aircrafts land and take-off. usually equipped with hangars facilities for refueling and accommodation for passengers.
Airworthy
in respect of an aeronautical product, means in a fit and safe state for flight and conformity with its type design
Aisle
a narrow passageway between two rows of seats
Altitude (ALT)
the vertical distance measured in feet above sea level. cruising altitude is the constant height maintained during flight.
Ambulatory
passengers who can walk and board the aircraft unassisted even if slowly and with aids such a canes or crutches
Non-ambulatory
passengers unable to walk and board the a/c unassisted (WCHR) and (WCHS) and pax unable to walk and board the aircraft door to seat or to lavatory (WCHS)
Approach
the final stage of a flight when an a/c is coming close to the runway where it is going to land
Apron/Tarmac
an area in front of an a/c hangar used for parking
Arrival Time
is the instant when the pilot sets the a/c parking brake after arriving at the airport gate or pax unloading area. DOCKING GUIDANCE SYSTEM(DGS) “gate-arrival time” is when the a/c is stopped at the appropriate parking mark.
Ascend
when an a/c climbs to a higher altitude after take-off
Augmented flight crew
a flight crew that comprises more than the minimum number required to operate the airplane. inflight rest
baggage
personal property of a pax necessary for wear, use, comfort of convenience in connection with his trip
Belly Landing
an emergency landing when an a/c is forced to land in its belly bec. its undercarriage cannot be lowered.
BLND
blind pax
block time
the period from the time the airplane first moves under its own power in departing on a flight leg until it comes to a full stop for the purpose of discharging pax or cargo or for fueling or maintenance
boarding pass
card given to the pax upon check-in
bulkhead
wall or partition that divides the pax cabin to separate sections
cabin
a section of the a/c (eg. Mabuhay Class-forward cabin)
cabin administration manager(CAM)
to plan, lead, organize , implement and administer programs and activities to determine strategies that will ensure alignment to corporate directors in the administration if the cabin crew
cabin crew control panel
a panel usually located forward of each door which the cabin crew can control functions such as cabin lighting, inflight music, crew calls, PA systems, etc
cabin crew division
tasked with directly managing the cabin crew corps in order to ensure correct implementation of government, company and departmental policies and procedures in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
Cabin crew member(CA/CC)
crew member who performs in the interest of safety of the pax.
Senior Cabin Crew(SCC2) or flight purser- directs and supervises cabin crew on international flight
Senior Cabin Crew (SCC1) or domestic head cabin crew (DHCA) - supervises cabin crew on domestic flights
CA 1-25/UDGS/UDFA and assist CAs-regular cabin crew member
Cabin Maintenance Logbook (CML)
a record book kept in the cabin for cabin crew use in reporting discrepancies noted on the condition of the cabin interior and safety equipment used inflight
Cabin Safety Certificate
official document issued by the company to show that the cabin crew member has passed the required a/c emergency procedures, exam and is permitted to operate ad a member of the cabin crew on the designated a/c
Cabin Services Manager(CSM)
admin cabin crew license holder, to perform the functions as extension of thep Cabin administration manager
cancelled flight
flight operation that was not operated
Captain / pilot-in-command
most senior member of the cockpit crew
carriage
transpo. of persons or property by air with or without remuneration including a incidental services
carrier
pertains to the airline company. eg. PAL
check-in counter
a place where pax report on arrival at the airport and where the pax documents are checked and boarding passes are issued
chime
warning bell to alert crew to pax calls, interphone calls and changed in cabin signs. eg. fasten seatbelt
CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF THE PHILIPPINES (CAAP)
to decide cases as they are presented and to promulgate the rules necessary for the safe and economical airline operations
CIVIL AVIATION REGULATION (CAR)
provide the regulatory requirements dealing with aviation safety related to aircraft operations, airworthiness and personnel licensing
climb
Ascent
cockpit or flight deck
section of the a-c where the capt., 1st officer and or second officer and or flight engineer operate the flight
Abort
to cut short the operation of the a/c during take-off or landing, due to technical failure or other reasons.
