Define health
Complete state of physical, mental and social well being and not the absence of disease only
Define health promotion
Process of enabling people to increase their control over and improve their health
i.e. planned actions aimed at empowering people to control their health by gaining on it’s determinants
Define Public health
The science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting physical health and efficiency through organised community effort for
- sanitation of the environment
- control of community infections
- education of individuals in personal hygiene
- organisation of medical and nursing services for early dx and preventive treatment of disease
- development of social machinery that will ensure a standard of living adequate to ensure maintenance of health in every individual
Define Rehabilitation
Process of restoring a person’s social identity by repossession of his/her normal roles and functions in society
Global health
Any heath problems, issue and concerns that transcend national boundaries, are influenced by circumastances and experiences in other countries and are best addressed by cooporative actions and solutions
Determinant
A factor that contributes to the development of a trait
Epidemic or outbreak
Occurence of a specific health related event in excess of the normal expectancy
Clinical care
Prevention, treatment and management of illenss and the preservation of mental and physcial well-being throught services offered by health care system (medical and allied health professions)
Health outcome
Results of a medical condition that directly affects the length or quality of a person’s life
Epidemiology
Study of the distribution and determinants of disease or health related events and their application to promote health and prevent and control these diseases
Health economics
This is a branch of econimcs concerned with the allocation of resources among alternative uses and how effectively and efficiently these resources are used
