Definition 2 Flashcards
Progressive Waves
They are waves that move energy from place to place without transfer of matter
Transverse waves
It is one which the vibrations of the particles in the wave are at right angle to the direction in which the energy of the wave is traveling
Longitudinal wave
It is one which the direction of the vibrations of the particles one the wave is along the direction in which the energy of the wave is traveling
Displacement
The displacement of a particle on a wave is its distance in a specified direction from its rest position
Amplitude
The amplitude of the wave motion is defined as the maximum displacement of a particle in a wave
Wavelength
It is the shortest distance between two peaks or two troughs
Period T
It is the time taken for a particle in a wave to complete one vibration
Frequency F
It is the number of complete vibrations per unit time
Intensity
It is the amount of energy passing through per unit time
