The geographical definition is defined by using lines of latitude and longitude. The Caribbean stretches from 60’W to 90’ W of the Greenwich Meridian/ Prime Meridian

This is defined by the Caribbean states that share similar seismic and volcanic features
- Describe the historical aspect
This is where countries have shared experiences of colonization, slavery, indentureship, and the plantation system
- Describe the political aspect
This is when countries share or have shared similar political systems which have 3 dominant types

- What are independent states?
Independent states are those which were previously under colonial rule but are now self-governed. They are known as sovereign states
- What are associated states?
Associated states are former British colonies of the Eastern Caribbean
- What are colonial dependencies/ dependent territories?
Colonial dependencies are countries that are not independent but enjoy the rights and privileges of the country that governs them
