Extensive Properties
Depends on the amount of matter in a sample
(quantative)
volume, mass, size, weight, length
Element
One type of atom; a pure substance that can’t be broken into simpler, stable substances.
Compound
Two or more different atoms that are chemically bonded in a fixed ratio
Homogeneous/Solution
Mixture in which composition is uniform throughout
Vodka, air, rain
Heterogenous
Mixutre in which composition is NOT uniform throughout
cereal in milk, ice in soda, soil
Mixture
A combination (compound) of two or more substances that are physically blended together
Pure substance
An element or compound made up of only one particle
