It’s the difference between story and narrative
Narrative Discourse

Presentations
For stories that are acted
Difference between story and narrative discourse
The chrono-logic of narrative.
A difference between two kinds of time and two kinds of order
Two kinds of time
- Externally: the duration of the presentation of the novel, film, play. (Discourse)
- Internally: the duration of the sequence of events that constitute the plot. (Story)
Subdivision of narrative discourse
- The order in which events are recounted (Plot or Sjuzet).
- Style or discourse.
Two components to every Story
The Events and the Entities ( “existents”) involved in the events.
Entities
The necessary element in all stories
Characters
Those entities with human qualities.
Setting
Other possible defining ingredient of story. It suggests a kind of container in which the entities are found and the events take place.
Mediation (construction) of story
Story is always mediated (constructed) by narrative discourse.
