Defenitions Flashcards
Pixel
A pixel is like a tiny dot on a screen or in a digital photo. Each pixel has its own color and brightness. Together, these dots create pictures, text, and everything you see on your computer or smartphone screen. The more pixels you have, the clearer and more detailed the images can be.
Resolution
Resolution is the level of detail and clarity in an image, video, or display.
Bitmap
A bitmap is produced from columns of pixels with various colours, which when combined create an image. Bitmaps have only two colours in their most basic form, with each pixel being either black or white.
JPEG
JPEG is a common used file format that is compressed of digital images.
Image Sensor
An image sensor is used for capturing light and converting it into an electrical signal, ultimately creating images or videos.
CCD
A CCD is a type of image sensor found in digital cameras and scanners. It is responsible for capturing images by converting light into electrical signals.
CMOS
A CMOS is a type of semiconductor technology used in electronic devices and integrated circuits.
Hue
Hue is the attribute of color that distinguishes it by its dominant wavelength on the color spectrum.
Saturation
Saturation is the intensity of a colour
Image Contrast
The term contrast refers to the amount of color or grayscale differentiation that exists between various image features in both analog and digital images.
Image Brightness
Image brightness is the different levels of light in an image.
Layers Palette in Photoshop
This is where all your layers are located and are stored.
Liquify Tool in Photoshop
The liquify tool is for correcting and modifying images. With it, you can easily fix problems like wrinkles or distortion, or go beyond simple corrections to create completely new effects.
Key Light
The main source of light
Fill Light
Secondary light to briefly lighten shadows
Soft Box
A softbox is a light modifier that confines light from an artificial source into a wire framed box and releases it through a layer of diffusion.
Hard Light
Hard light is a focused, often bright light that casts harsh shadows and draws attention to a specific part of a photo.
Flat Light
Flat lighting is a type of lighting style that has the light facing directly into the person from the angle of the lens

Loop Light
The light above the person (25-50) angled to the persons face (25-50
Slight directional light. Light still falls onto bother siders of the face, but the shadow of the nose is extended to one side
Rembrandt Light
Light from above the person and at a stronger angle than the loop lighting
Leaves on side of the face primarily in the shadow with the exception of the cheek bone and eye
Split Light
Light comes directly 90 degrees from the to the right or left to the person’s face.
Leaves one side of the face completely in the shadow with the drudge of the nose and fore as the diving or spilt line
