MK5 para Operations

A

OPERATION
8.
The plastic lid is removed to expose the striker cord which is pulled to release the striker claws. The action of removing the striker claws compresses the striker spring which when released causes the striker to travel down the striker housing and impact on the percussion cap.
9.
The flash from the percussion cap ignites the pressed SFG90 gunpowder in the delay sleeve. The gunpowder and delay composition burn down the sleeve and ends in a shaped termination. The resultant flame wash passes through the hole in the centre of the baffles and ignites the primed cloth. The primed cloth transfers the flame front to the igniter pellet which in turn ignites the upper smoke pellet. The upper smoke pellet burns like a candle to its base where it ignites the top surface of the lower pressed smoke pellet which then burns in a similar fashion.
10.
The delay to effective smoke production is between 2.7 and 4.5 seconds and the emission is achieved through the central emission hole in the top of the grenade. Smoke is produced for a minimum of 40 seconds.

A
When the threaded end cap is removed, the D ring is exposed. Once the D ring is pulled and twisted, the safety fork releases the striker from the safe detent and strikes the percussion cap which produces a flash; the flash then ignites the primed cambric and the celluloid strip. The burning cambric and celluloid ignites the flare composition or the smoke composition, depending on which end the user activates.
