When will a train be able to enter service with defective equipment?
1) The routes do not have the equipment fitted
2) The cab concerned will not be used
Competent Person definition ?
A person passed as qualified and having the required knowledge and skills to carry out a particular rule, regulation, instruction or procedure
What additional knowledge does a competent person need when the equipment which is defective is the DRA, AWS, TPWS or broken windscreen ?
Route knowledge over entire route
What do you need to work on the outside of your train?
Ask Signaller to stop trains on adjacent line and make sure you have permission to leave the cab
Actions when you have a hot axle box?
1) Stop immediately
2) Contact Signaller
3) Not move until instructed
4) Carry out instructions given
Timescale to carry out hot axle box examination?
10 minutes
Max speed with confirmed hot axle box?
10 mph
5 mph over points and crossings
Procedure after freeing locked wheels/brakes?
Rotational test
Restrictions for a 5 vehicle unit with brake isolation on an intermediate vehicle?
Train can enter service (not from a maintenance depot) if
1) fitted with rigid bar coupling
2) speed restricted to 10 mph below line speed but not less than 35 mph
