Anterior surface of the sacrum
What is the origin of obturator internus?
Deep surface of the obturator membrane
What is the origin of superior gemellus?
Ischial spine
What is the origin of inferior gemellus?
Ischial tuberosity
What is the origin of quadratus femoris?
Ischium, anterior to the ischial tuberosity
What is the origin of psoas major?
Posterior abdominal wall:
• lumbar transverse processes
• intervertebral discs and adjacent vertebral bodies
What is the origin of Iliacus?
Upper 2/3 of iliac crest
What is the origin of pectineus?
Pectineal line on superior ramus of the
pubic bone
What is the origin of sartorius?
Anterior superior iliac spine
What is the insertion of piriformis?
Medial surface of superior greater trochanter
What is the insertion of obturator internus, superior gemellus and inferior gemellus?
Medial surface of greater trochanter.
What is the insertion of quadratus femoris?
Quadrate tubercule of femur
What is the insertion of psoas major and illiacus?
Lesser trochanter of femur
What is the insertion of pectineus?
Pectineal line of lesser trochanter
What is the insertion of sartorius?
Medial surface of the tibia
What is the action of piriformis, superior gemellus, inferior gemellus and obturator internus?
Laterally rotate femur and abduct flexed femur.
What is the action of quadratus femoris?
Laterally rotate femur
What is the action of both psoas major and iliacus?
Flex the thigh at the hip joint
What is the action of pectineus and sartorius?
Flex the thigh at the hip joint and adduct the thigh at the hip joint.
What is the innervation of piriformis?
Branches from S1 and S2
What is the innervation of obturator internus and superior gemullus?
Nerve to obturator internus (L5, S1)
What is the innervation of inferior gemellus and quadratus femoris?
Nerve to quadratus femoris (L5, S1)
What is the innervation of psoas major?
Anterior Rami of L1, L2 (less L3)
What is the innervation of iliacus, pectineus and sartorius?
Femoral Nerve (L2, L3)
