Decompression / Turbulence Flashcards
3 common signs of slow decompression
Ears popping, Euphoria, lack of self criticism/judgment
What is non- pressurisation ?
A fault in the system meaning the aircraft is never pressurised during the climb.
Signs of non-pressurisation
Ears popping for longer than just take off. Suddenly very tired. After 15,000ft hypoxia sets in
When oxygen masks drop-out?
Fit nearest mask
Sit down where you are
Strap in
Breath normally
Note time on watch
What commands would you shout ?
Grab Mask, Pull down. Seat belt tight and low. Put your mask on before helping others. Breath normally. Stay calm.
Time of useful consciousness at 40,000ft?
18 seconds
Time of useful consciousness at 35,000ft
30-50 seconds
Time of useful consciousness at 30,000ft
1-2 minutes
What are the steps when attaching portable oxygen?
Wear it like a sling ensuring the gauge is facing upwards.
Check pressure is at 1500psi
Check there is 4litres
Remove face mask from pouch
Twist anti clockwise to turn oxygen on
Pinch the top of the bag to see if it slightly inflate to check oxygen is working.
Place mask on nose and mouth and adjust strap.
How do you know the pilots mask is working?
The yellow blinker with inflate/deflate.
What is the aircraft pressurised to above 10,000ft?
5-7000ft
When slow decompression occurs, how long for the aircraft to equalise with outside pressure?
More than 10 seconds
With rapid decompression how long for the pressure to equalise with the outside ?
1 - 10 seconds
With explosive decompression, how long does it take for the pressure to equalise with outside the aircraft ?
Less than 1 second
What can cause unanticipated turbulence?
CAT - Clear Air Turbulence.
