Os Coxa: When both sides are articulated, forms the bony pelvis – Implications for pelvic fractures? Multiple fractures common b/c ring-like configuration-Formed by 3 bones that fuse after puberty, usually by 25 y.o-Ilium (superiorly positioned)-Ischium (posteriorly positioned)-Pubis (anteriorly positioned), risk of fracture from AP crush injury (risk of damage to bladder + urethra)-Acetabulum (lateral): 3 bones fuse here-Socket for articulation with head of femur = Hip Joint, a ball-and-socket synovial joint-Risk of fracture when landing on legs from a fall, femoral head can be driven through acetabulumOther Important Bony Landmarks-ASIS, anterior superior iliac spine-Iliac crest (highest point = approx L5)-Auricular surface: articulates with sacrum = sacroiliac joint-Ischial spine-Ischial tuberosity-Ischiopubic ramus-Pubic Symphysis: joint between Rt + Lt pubis bones, with fibrocartilaginous interpubic disc in between-Obturator foramen

Sacrotuberous lig-From ischial tuberosity to sacrum/coccyx-Helps demarcate greater sciatic foramen-Pudendal n. and internal pudendal a/v lie deep to this lig to enter perineumSacrospinous lig-From ischial spine to sacrum/coccyx-Deep to sacrotuberous lig-Demarcates greater and lesser sciatic foramina-Pudendal n. and internal pudendal a/v lie superficial to this lig to enter perineumObturaror Membrane-Covers most of obturator foramen-Serves as attachment for obturator internus and obturator externus mm.-Gap superiorly provides exit from pelvis onto thigh for Obturator n., a. and v. (supplies medial thigh compartment)
