deck one Flashcards
what are the main sources of the uk constitution ?
authoritative work, common law, statute law, conventions(salisbury),treaties, historical decisions
what does the rule of law refer to
every man is subject to the law ,no one is above it including the monarch and parliament
explain the concept of parliamentary sovereignty
because of the uk’s lack of a codified constitution the rules laws we are subject to are created and enforced by parliament, who can ultimately changed/ make or get rid of laws.as nothing in entrenched
give example of failed constitutional reform act
fixed term parliament t act(2011) ,pm cannot use prerogative to call early elections(without support of half of parliament)parliament same date every 5 years
stops pm from capitalising of off popularity to secure government /majority.(margaret thatcher post falklands war)
repealed by johnsons gov 2022
example of how constitution/reform in not entrenched, can be altered at any given time .
