Explain the function of the Lee helm on the ships control Console.
It is the bridge control unit mounted in the ships control Console. The primary purpose is throttle control of the gas turbine main engines when throttle control has been shifted from the PACC to the bridge.
Explain the function of the ships helm on the Ships Control Console.
The ships helm is the primary steering station. It is used for controlling the port and starboard Rudders.
Explain the function of the Alarm panel on the ships control Console.
Flashing light and audible alarm indicates loss of steering.
Explain the function of the Auto pilot on the ships control Console.
Automatic steering control panel. It is used to input steering commands when operation is in the computer assisted auto mode. The panel is arranged into four functional areas.
What is autopilots four functional areas?

Performance section area
Best fuel gives the lowest gain, intermediate, Best handle gives the highest gain.
Rudder limit section area
can be set from 2° to 35°.

Contains heading, order and keypad displays.

Contains the controls to change the heading.
What are the boat crew personnel assignments?
Coxswain , boat officer, engineer, bow hook.
Coxswain
The Coxswain is overall in charge of the boat and enlisted crew. He or she is also the senior enlisted by positional authority
Boat officer
The boat officer has authority over the boat coxswain and navigational areas.
Engineer
Engineer ask as Stern hook, aft lookout, and assists with the deployment and recovering of the SAR swimmer. Also make sure the boat engine runs properly.
Bow hook
The bow hook is the coxswain’s assistant. They serve as a FWD lookout, assist in the deployment and a covering of the SAR swimmer, and conduct various seamanship tasks such as casting off lines, and aid in bringing the boat alongside.
State the maximum limit of personal occupancy for the rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB).
Maximum capacity of 18 including a crew of three.
Slewing arm davit (SLAD)
Can launch the RHIB boats while underway at 10 knots and up to Sea state condition five.
What is the process for launching the RHIB?
- Once the RHIB is in the water release the boat slings
- cast off the aft steadying line
- cast off the forward steadying line 4. cast off the sea painter
Recovery-
The SLAD system can recover the RHIB boat while underway at 10 knots and up to sea state condition 5. The process for retrieving is as follows: Hook up sea painter Hook up FWD steadying line Hook up AFT steadying line Hook up the boat slings
Vertical Replenishment: (VERTREP)
Uses helicopters from the delivery ship to airlift solid cargo, light stores, mail, and personnel to the ship.
Forward VERTREP Station-
Located on the 01 level forward of the 5”54 on center line. There is no provision for landing a helicopter at this station.
Aft VERTREP station-
Located on the main deck aft.
Connected Replenishment: (CONREP)
Stations are used to transfer solid cargo, personnel and fuel.
UNREP Fueling Station No. 3 and 4 -
Bulkhead mounted fueling-at-Sea (FAS) Stations located on the 02 level, port and starboard. 133. 8” risers for diesel fuel marine grade (DFM) only.
CONREP Solid Cargo Stations No. 5 and 6 -
Both are equipped with a tilted sliding pad eye Kingpost and are located on the 01 level, port and starboard amidships, frame 235.
UNREP Fueling station No. 7 -
Fixed tripod fueling-at-Sea (FAS) station located on the starboard side at frame 338. This station has an 8” riser for DFM, and a riser for JP-5.
UNREP Fueling Station No.8 -
Bulkhead mounted Fueling-at-Sea (FAS) station located on the 01 level port side at frame 300. This station has an 8” riser for DFM, and a riser for JP-5.
UNREP Astern Refueling Station -
A 6” riser refueling station located on the port side of the forecastle to support astern refueling operations.
