Deck 4 - Endocrine Drugs Flashcards
It is used to start labor, encourage placenta delivery, and stop postpartum bleeding.
OXYTOCIN
It releases the neurotransmitters Norepinephrine and Epinephrine
ADRENAL MEDULLA
It produce hormones called CORTICOSTERIODS
ADRENAL CORTEX
It is a class of steroid hormones, as well as its synthetic counterparts, that are created in the adrenal cortex of vertebrates.
CORTICOID
It increase the availability of glucose.
GLUCOCORTICOIDS
What is the ideal treatment for adrenocortical insufficiency and the synthetic steroid that is equivalent to cortisol?
HYDROCORTISONE
What is an oral therapy for chronic adrenal insufficiency ?
CORTISONE
It is used to diagnose Cushing’s syndrome and treatment of non-endocrine disorders.
DEXAMETHASONE
In order to avoid complications, it is used to manage the glycemic response of diabetes mellitus (type 1, type 2, gestational).
INSULIN
It functions by permitting beta cells’ Ca+ channels to open, promoting the release of insulin.
SULPHONYLUREAS
It is a Metformin HCl and reduces the liver’s synthesis of glucose while enhancing the body’s responsiveness to insulin.
BIGUANIDES
It slows down the rate of starch digestion and absorption and lessens the postprandial rise in blood sugar.
ALPHA-GLUCOSIDAE INHIBITORS
It improves glucose absorption, reduces insulin resistance, and lowers liver glucose production.
THIAZOLIDINEDIONES
It decreases glucagon release while increasing insulin release.
GLIPTINS
It should only be taken with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, Pregnancy Category B patients, and hypoglycemia caused by insufficient glycogen storage.
