Deck 2 –Autonomic Nervous System drugs Flashcards
what are the two main parts of central nervous system (cns)
BRAIN, SPINAL CORD
it controls thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger and every process that regulates our body
BRAIN
is the pathway for messages sent by the brain to the body and from the body to the brain.
SPINAL CORD
is a component of the peripheral nervous system that regulates involuntary physiologic processes including heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, and sexual arousal
AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
is a component of the peripheral nervous system associated with the voluntary control of the body movements via the use of skeletal muscles
SOMATIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
what are the main parts of autonomic nervous system
SYMPATHETIC/ADRENERGIC, PARASYMPATHETIC/CHOLINERGIC
is the part of your body that regulates your physical and emotional responses to stress and other stressful situations. It can speed up your heart rate, deliver more blood to areas of the body that need it, or help you get out of harm’s way.
SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
is a network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger. It also helps run life-sustaining processes, like digestion, during times when you feel safe and relaxed.
PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
it sends impulses to the CNS
AFFERENT
receives impulses, transmits through the spinal cord to effector organ cells
EFFERENT
drugs act through receptors to initiate a response or prevent a response
RECEPTOR THEORY
drugs that blocks a response
ANTAGONIST
is a drug that binds to the receptor
AGONIST
has a catechol ring and amines
CATECHOLAMINES
has no catechol ring
NONCATECHOLAMINES
