Deck 2 Flashcards
Collision Avoidance
Time slot written in the wireless which can be used to transmit a frame.
Reduced inter frame space (RIFS)
Space between a burst of frames and the next frame
Short inter frame space (SIFS)
Period of time between data frame and acknowledgement
Distributed inter frame space (DIFS)
Default spacing between normal frames; standard
Extended inter frame space (EIFS)
Used for collisions and re-transmissions
Management frame
Beacon: used by access points to let it known what is available to clients
Probe: ability for clients to request access points to provide info
Authentication/De-authentication: authenticate access or no longer allow access.
Association/disassociation/re-association:
action management: request radio measurement; request information about power levels
Control Frames
ACK: acknowledgement of sending a data frame
Block ACK: acknowledge of a burst of frames
RTS/CTS: allow you to reserve a channel
Phase
The phase is just a measure of shift in time that is relative to the start of the cycle. signals can be aligned in phase or not aligned/out of phase.
Amplitude
the amplitude represents how far the signals can travel before they can no longer be understood by a wireless receiver.
