Deck 2 Flashcards
Competitive inhibition
Binding of inhibitor at active site of enzyme, prevent binding of substrate.
Deamination
Removal of an amine group (from N-terminus, to the left)
Decarboxylation
removal of carboxylic group (from C-terminus, to the right)
Dehydration
Reaction where there is loss of water (e.g. in formation of sucrose from glucose and fructose)
Denaturation
of proteins (or nucleic acids), partial or incomplete destruction of their structure (quarternary, tertiary and secondary). Caused by e.g. increased temperature.
Depolarization
change in membrane potential. Influx of Na+ –> loss of negative charge
Deoxyhemoglobin
Hemoglobin without oxygen molecules bound to the heme groups
Dipeptide
two amino acids bond together
Enzyme
- Catalyst, speed up chemical reactions.
- Not consumed itself
Erythropoetin
protein hormone that control the production of erythrocytes
