Hat lifting to ventilate
Men will suddenly lift up their hat to ventilate their head when they are struggling with something, are stressed, or have concerns. Look for other confirming tells such as tense face, high shoulders, etc.
Ear lobe pulling or massage
soothing = doubt or hesitation
head scratching
soothing / pacifying = have doubts, stressed or concerned
running fingers through hair (men)
sign of concern or doubt
playing with hair (women palm out)
comfort display = they are strong
playing with hair (women palm in)
pacifying behavior = stress or discomfort
ventilating hair (women)
women ventilate their hair by lifting up their hair quickly at the neck when concerned or flustered. if they do it repeatedly they are very stressed
pulling hair (hair, eyebrows, facial hair)
stress, trouble, insecure
nodding their head on the flop / Rocking
look for this to appear anytime after the flop, subconsciously they are acknowledging their strength. many of us do this when we recognize something is correct.
patting their hair down with the palm of their hand
soothing under stress or confronted with a dilemma
furrowing the forehead
person is insecure = doubt, weakness, ect
eye brow narrowing
concern, dislike - can be a very fast expression and very suttle
forehead massaging
doubt or concern = marginal hand
forehead tension
need a baseline, but if the muscles are tensed up, something is wrong, they are weak or stressed
quickly covering their forehead with a hat or vizor
suddenly affix their head gear to cover their forehead = strength / something worth protecting
pressing their hand against their forehead
soothing = doubt or weakness
pulsing temple vein
this can be strong or weak, key is that there is something else going on - look for soothing or strength supporting tells
relaxed eyes
comfort and confidence
eyebrow arching
sudden eyebrow arching is a sign of something good - when they are checking their cards or on the board
pupil dilation
I like what I see - strength when they see their hand or a turn card
constricted pupils
something we don’t like - negative
quickly squinting
bad hand or are doing something they don’t want to do.
closed eyes
sign of discomfort and “blocking something out”
sudden covering of eyes
negative, hiding, weak hand
covert look of interest
strength - if they are trying to look disinterested but can’t help but look at what you are doing, they are strong.
suddenly hiding behind their face
weak - only if its sudden and out of character.
sudden increase in blink rate
stress - usually is when someone is weak
quivering under the eyes
stress and discomfort
eyes shut and rubbing the bridge of the nose
pacifying and blocking - they are weak and uncomfortable.
wide eyes frozen
stress and surprise
Nose touch
touching your nose with your index finger is usually a stress reliver and is a pacifying response.
Flaring of nostrils
strong - players who are strong and are just waiting to pounce will usually flair their nostrils in anticipation.
crinkling of nose
dislike or displeasure - usually done preflop when they don’t like their hole cards, and is very quick and extremely accurate. LOOK FOR THIS WHEN LOOKING PREFLOP
Playing with the area right above the upper lip
weakness or uncomfortable
index finger on the side of the nose and held there
deep in thought, they have a decision, usually a mid strength hand
covering nose (and sometimes mouth) suddenly
weakness, the just realized their hand is weak. flop turn or river just changed their hand
Nose held high
very strong - can be seen more in european players, but anyone can show it.
Fingers to lips
weak - insecurity or doubt
plucking of lips
associated with fear or doubt - pacifying
narrowing of lips
weakness and concern
Lip compression
very accurate indicator of stress or concern
unwillingness to uncompress lips when being asked questions
high degree of stress or concern. need to test this for a baseline. lips must be compressed, not just silent.
lip quivering
stress and fear.
upside down mouth
very strong indicator. when the corners of the lips are downward, things are bad.
loud, short exale
stress or frustration
exhaling with puffed out cheeks
stress and frustration
prused lips when looking at hole cards
very strong tell, don’t like what they see
tongue jut
very strong tell. when the tongue quickly juts out between the teeth without touching the lips, the player is strong and anticipating something. trying to get others to put money in the pot
fake smile
smile goes toward the ears instead of the eyes, eye muscles are not used. sometimes only uses one side of the face. weak or bluffing
Real smile
engages the eye muscles and will have the corners of the mouth turn upwards to the eyes
whistling while waiting for the other person to act
they are weak - pacifying behavior
holding breath and staying very still
bluffing
