Factors and tests
What contra-indications may limit or affect the colour service?
Known allergies, skin disorders, incompatible products on the hair, previous reactions to colour, evident hair damage and medical advice.
What factors will influence colour services?
Exisiting hair colour, hair classification, porosity, hair length, density, texture, % of white hair, hair length, temperature and test results.
Which test checks the condition of the cuticle?
Porosity test.
What does an incompatibility test check for?
Metallic salts and other incompatible products on the hair.
Which test checks the strength of the cortex?
Elasticity test.
Which test is carried out to check for alleriges to colour?
Skin test.
How long is a skin test done prior to colouring?
48 hours.
Why is a test cutting/ colour test carried out and how?
To check the suitability of the colour and development time prior to colouring. Cut a piece of hair from where it will not be noticed, or colour a small section. Process the hair to see the colour development.
How would you do an incompatibility test?
Take a small cutting of hair and place in a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ammonium thioglycolate (perm solution). If the mixture bubbles, heats up or discolours, you should not apply a chemical service.
What does a development or strand test check?
To check the colour development and even balance, after following manufacturer instructions timing and before colour removal.
