Deck 1 Flashcards
Hosea 6:6
For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
Ephesians 6:13
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Ephesians 6:16
In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one
Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
We expect peace in our society, but we are at war. Our enemy is the Devil. He battles us subtly, in our politics and entertainment and justice system. We struggle with greed and sexuality and hate and on and on.
Jesus is pro-war, but not with bullets and drones. The struggle is not against people: it’s against Satan and his demonic forces (“the powers”)
Mathew 7:24
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:25
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:26
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
Matthew 7:27
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
Matthew 7:1
Judge not, that you be not judged.
Shamed people shame people
Matthew 7:3
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Scarcity mindset pits us against each other. We each want our fair share and compete with our neighbors for it. But God’s love is not scarce - it’s infinite. We can all have as much as we need.
Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:8
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Matthew 7:11
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
We imagine what good gifts are, but when we give our heaets to the Lord we see what He sees as good. The ultimate treasure is a relationship with God. Part of the problem with prayer is the disconnect as what we see as good. But as you walk in the way of the Lord you begin to change your view in what is truly good.
Prayers that are not answered can change our relationship with prayer. It’s at these times that we need to Knock. Not just ask. Feeling loss or failure, we need our Father the most.
Matthew 7:15
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
Be aware of what pulls away from Jesus.
Where are we drawing our confidence from? From our relationship with Christ or from our doctrine?
