Deck 1 Flashcards
What are emissions?
Emissions are anything that is released into the air
What is smog?
Smog is smoke and fog.
What is acid rain?
Acid rain is pollutants that entered the clouds rained down.
What is the point of catalytic converters?
Catalytic converters minimize the amount of car emissions.
What is erosion?
Erosion is the movement of sediments.
What is runoff?
The draining of water.
What is the point of a wastewater treatment facility?
To clean sewage water.
What is nutrient depletion?
Nutrient depletion is where the amount of nutrients in soil runs out or has little of.
What is malnutrition?
A condition caused by not getting enough calories or the right amount of key nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, that are needed for health.
What are some examples of soil pollution?
Industrial waste, manufacturing, and agriculture.
What is drip irrigation?
Drip irrigation involves placing tubing with emitters on the ground alongside the plants.
What are fossil fuels?
a natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms.
What are some examples of renewable energy resources?
Wind, water, sun, etc.
What are some environmental impacts of fossil fuels?
Burning fossil fuels releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, contributing to the formation of smog and acid rain.
What is conservation?
The prevention of wasting materials.
What is efficiency?
The ratio of useful energy output from a system compared to the total energy input.
What are solar panels used for?
Since solar energy is renewable, it can generate electricity better that fossil fuels that will one day run out.
