What is COSHH?
Responsibility to Store, Handle, Use and Dispose of hazardous substances.
What is the Health and Safety at work Act 1974?
Primary legislation covering occupational health and safety. To provide safe systems at work.
How to Prevent COSHH?
Find out what the hazard is. Provide control measures to reduce the harm and plan for emergencies.
What is the Electricity at work act 1974?
All equipment is properly maintained and in good working order. Regular tests are made.
My responsibilities for the Electricity at work act 1974?
remove, report, label fault equipment
What is Protective Personal Equipment at Work?
Ensure it is fit for purpose and that the staff are trained in the use of PPE
My responsibilities for PPE?
Used when required. Gloves are worn when dealing with technical services
What is Manual Handling 1992 Act?
To make sure there is no risk to health and safety when handling equipment
What is the provision and use of work equipment 1988?
Make sure equipment is inspected on a regular basis and a record is kept
What is Reporting of injuries, diseases and Dangerous occurrences Act? (RIDDOR)
Making sure injury is reported
What is a Hazard?
Anything having a potential to cause harm
What is a risk?
What could happen because of the hazard
What is a control measure?
ways of controlling or reducing to risk to health and safety
What is contact Dermatitis?
Inflammation of the skin caused by soaps, detergents, solvents or regular contact with water
What is Contra-Indication?
A reason why we cannot complete a service eg. headlice
What is an infection?
caused by a virus, bacteria or fungi
What is an infestation?
Caused by a mite or anything living off you eg. lice, scabies
What is Cross-infection/Infestation?
Passes from person-to-person eg. head lice
What is Barbicide?
Chemical used for small, plastic combs (20m)
What is Autoclave?
Steam, moist heat used for metal objects only (20m)
What is Steristrom?
UVA used for electrical, large brushes (20m each side)
What does Disinfection do?
slows down growth of bacteria
What does sterillisation do?
Completely kills bacteria
How to maintain brushes?
Remove buildup of hair after every client and put in steristrom or barbicide
What is the Data Protection Act? (GDPR)
Taking and keeping of client data. Keep up to date and do not share with others.
What is Traction Alopecia?
form of Alopecia or gradual hair loss, caused by pulling force being applied
What are the symptoms of Traction Alopecia?
bald patches near hairline
When does Semi permanent colour wash out?
after 6 - 8 washes
How do you apply semi-permanent colour?
apply to wet hair, root first and only condition hair
When does Quasi colour wash out?
after 12 - 24 washes
How do you apply Quasi colour?
apply to wet hair, only condition
When does Permanent wash out?
lasts forever. Must have skin test. Apply to dry hair. Shampoo twice. Use anti-oxi conditioner
