Decibel Flashcards

1
Q

What is the 3db rule

A

Generally when adding 2x the power you gain 3db and the same when you minus. So if I have speaker playing at 100db and add another 100db you will have 103db

Q

How does adding decibels work?

A

Since the decibel is a logarithmic scale, the laws of addition apply to any summation of sound pressure level.

Q

What is sound power level?

A

(Lw) in dB is related to intensity of a sound through a unit surface area. This is independent of distance to the sound source.

No matter where you stand the Lw stays the same.
