Q

How does deception pertain to each table type in accordance with the PATL matrix?

A

Tight/passive table: deception is important

Tight/aggressive table: deception is important

Loose/passive table: deception is not important

Loose/aggressive table: deception is somewhat important

There is little need to use deception at a loose table unless you are down to tight opponents. The only time you should use deception at a loose table is when you are playing opponents who play with you often.

Q

If you flop a monster at a loose table, should you use deception, and why?

A

Always use the middle card to determine how you bet. You are going to have to show your cards at the end anyways and you want to make sure the tight players are always confused.

When should you show your cards?

A

When stealing the blinds and you actually have a strong hand.

And when you’ve been playing extremely aggressively and winning without showdowns, to convince opponents you are strong.

Avoid showing bluffs.

Q

What is the difference between the basic and advanced methods of deception.

A

In the basic method you use the card’s color to determine whether you will play aggressively or passively.

In the advanced method you will use the card’s suit to determine whether you will play tight/aggressive, tight/passive, loose/aggressive, or loose/passive.
