Dec 2021 Flashcards
Measurable objective
Objectives, unlike goal statements, are detailed descriptions of what students will be able to do by the end of a learning activity.
They are related to intended outcomes, rather than the process for achieving those outcomes.
They are specific and measurable, rather than broad and intangible.
They are concerned with students, not teachers.

John Dewey
Theory of experience
Background schema
Simply put, Dewey stated that human experiences- past, present, and future- influence the capacity to learn. He once said that: ‘Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself.’
Lev v vygostsky
According to Vygotsky, the zone of proximal development is “[The] distance between the actual developmental level as determined by independent problem solving and the level of potential development as determined through problem-solving under adult guidance or in collaboration with more capable peers.”
Long term vs short term instructional goals
A short term goal is a goal that only takes a few days or weeks to achieve, for example, to complete daily homework assignments or to spend more time on daily homework assignments and complete better quality work. A long term goal takes several weeks, months, or even a full school semester of year, to achieve.
Gloria Larson bilings- cultural responsive teaching
Gloria Ladson-Billings proposed three main components of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy: (a) a focus on student learning and academic success, (b) developing students’ cultural competence to assist students in developing positive ethnic and social identities, and (c) supporting students’ critical consciousness or their ability to recognize and critique societal inequalities. All three components need to be utilized.

1) The sensorimotor stage: The first stage of development lasts from birth to approximately age two. At this point in development, children know the world primarily through their senses and motor movements.
(2) The preoperational stage: The second stage of development lasts from the ages of two to seven and is characterized by the development of language and the emergence of symbolic play.
(3) The concrete operational stage: The third stage of cognitive development lasts from the age of seven to approximately age 11. At this point, logical thought emerges, but children still struggle with abstract and theoretical thinking.
(4) The formal operation stage: In the fourth and final stage of cognitive development, lasting from age 12 and into adulthood, children become much more adept at abstract thought and deductive reasoning.
