21
Q

what is High Tech administrative technology

A

Information technology systems are composed of:

People
Hardware
Software
Data
Procedures

The management of these information are called INFORMATICS - designed to deliver the right information, to the right person, in the right place, at the right time, in the right way

22
Q

what are 2 informatics systems in Canada?

A

ehealth Ontario
Alberta Netcare

These allow healthcare professionals to have access to a clients DEMOGRAPHIC data, prescribed/dispensed drugs, allergies/intolerances, laboratory test results, diagnostic imaging reports, and other medical reports

23
Q

What are some of the drawbacks identified in using paper form documentation?

A
  • charting, how can you analyze
  • lost
  • mistakes
  • no time
  • cost
24
Q

What are some of ways that healthcare informatics has addressed some of the lags (drawbacks) in healthcare information collection?

A
  • digital software, computerized information , creating electric health records, helps enhance productively,
  • the process has now became faster
  • reduce cost by being quicker and more efficant
  • when charting online; gives the best result getting patient the best treatment and best outcomes with the least cost
25
Q

what does eHealth look like for the TR ?

A

Hospital care setting: eHealth refers to electronic patient administration systems; ASSES, DOCUMENT and EVALUATE + message interdisciplinary team.

Home care setting- TELE-CONSULTS and remote activity level monitoring systems

Within LTC/ Community - computer systems medical records and monitor clients goals and objectives

A FUNDAMENTAL BUILDING BLOCK of all these applications is the Electronic Health Record, which allows the sharing of necessary information between care providers across medical disciplines and institutions.

26
Q

what are some examples of eHealth systems that the TR may encounter

A

point click care/ point of care
activity pro/ connections
Retracker
ADL DATA SYSTEMS etc

27
Q

what benefits does eHealth and EHR have?

A

accurate information
communication for other providers
privacy
decisions are made in consultation with them

28
Q

Barriers of electronic medical records EMR

A
Financial
Technical
 Time
 Psychological
Social
 Legal
 Organizational
 Change process
Insufficient computer skills
Complex HIT user interfaces
Poor staff computer literacy
Frustration with navigating thesystem
Need for consistent input into EMR
Lack of enthusiasm for efficient use
Lack of interoperability with other systems
Need to scan documents from non-EMR systems into patient EMRs
Poor vendorsupport
29
Q

what are the benefits of EMR

A
Improved access to patient records
Improved patient care

Referrals
Improved access security
Improved practice efficiency
Record patient encounters
Improved record and report preparation
Improved patient safety
Track patient improvement
Reduced repeated tests and tasks
Improved continuity of care for chronic conditions and reduced delays
Monitor course of action for other members of interdisciplinary team.
30
Q

Why is Canada lagging in EMR ?

A

rates of adoption and funding support
due to :
finical and time constraints and lack of knowledge

31
Q

what are the 4 Ethical considerations for tech in TR Admin

A

autonomy
justice
beneficence/ non- maleficence
privacy and confidentiality

32
Q

Autonomy

A

Allowing “individuals to make their own choices and develop their own lives in the context of a particular society and in dialogue with that society;”

Any type of EHR system or use of technology in TR must maintain respect for patient autonomy, and decisions must be made about the access, content, and ownership of the records.

33
Q

what is the “conflict” in autonomy for patients

and whats the balance that is created

A

CONFLICT: Many patients might desire a level of control over their records’ content online
However- this leads to a conflict
Medical access versus legal responsibilities

BALANCE: Patients should be restricted from modifying or deleting any of the content entered by health care professionals; however, it should be acceptable for autonomous patients to view, annotate, or challenge the record with relative ease.
This type of access might actually result in a higher quality document because patients will act as proofreaders of their own health histories

34
Q

what is Justice as a ethical consideration

A

Justice is commonly defined as “fairness.”
TR has a duty to provide clients with access to an adequate level of health care that fulfills basic needs.
are user-friendly, fully integrated, easily searchable, and built with well-designed hardware and software
Increased access = equitable survive
N.B mindful of digital divide

35
Q

what is Beneficence/Non-maleficence as a ethical consideration

A

Beneficence- the duty to do only good
Non-maleficence- The duty to do no harm

Interventions
EHR
Assistive technology

Medical records contain some of the most sensitive information about an individual.
If EHR systems cannot maintain the highest level of data security, patients could suffer a variety of harms.

36
Q

when delivering a tech program it is important to consider :

A
make sure the client is benefiting
consider when how and when to terminate the use
make modifications if necessary
make sure its appropriate
be patient
37
Q

What do we need to remember when involving technology in programming?

A

new technology, but that gap is slowly closing of old tech

Technology may offer a means of reaching a greater number of young people (advocacy, community planning)

‘wii’ can be used as a physical activity benefits, therefore some technology can be used for exercising

Technology is always changing and advancing- professional responsibility to stay up to date

Recognize that while we can use technology to meet program, meet the needs of clients, we should always be mindful of over use

38
Q

how do you set up ACTIVITY PRO

A

create an account through admin team
when reordering scores: activity logger- open resident (1:1) or by activity (group)
Pick the activity

then proceed to glance at the list of residents that have engaged in the activity in the last 45 days ; when needing to add a new resident click new resident, which will allow to search a new resident that attended the program

when clicking the name; RT can rate the engagement and involvement of client.

39
Q

how do you go about logging or recording data to activity pro?

A

monitor activity and resident reports to identify what programs are working and build program successes

identify opportunities to match programs with your residents capabilities so they can experience the maximum quality of engagement

when logging and recording data simply search the resident and rate the resident on their engagement towards the activity. this rating can be a 1 as poor to 3 that is full engagement

when scoring residents RT needs to remember the activity domain and the benefit from the activity.

when scoring we want to score the quality and quantity - how well the resident engaged and how many times they have participated

40
Q

while using activity PRO what are some key points mentioned regarding departmental data management systems?

A

allows daily, guaterly, 6 months and yearly reviews
records birthdays

department wide announcements and private messaging
easily extract the data you need to report to government or health authorities

identifies successes and challenges, then develop best practice approaches to apply across home

decides what resident needs more attention and help with domains

helps with risk alerts

protects our jobs

41
Q

what are some risks associated with using EMR documentations ?

A

unsaved work

accurate corrections to the record

edit completely

fraud is an issue when false info submitted
agenda is needed when knew information is corrected- why did you correct work

provide proof and also record

42
Q

how can you avoid risks associated with EMR

A

submit notes on time and correctly
take notes through out the program/ assessment
submit info truly and accurately
do not delete process notes after being submitted
submit own work

43
Q

what is RECTRAC 2 ?

A

is eHealth software
RecTracker 2.0 shares results and discoveries and keeps everyone involved fully appraised of what is going on in sessions. Families can view summary of patient of their loved ones domains and how they were rated that day. This is a easy software that allows the TR to plug in information without having to write full progress notes, using SMART goals and objectives. Very time bound, and accurate. This program can easily identify re-assesments and the process the resident is making.

can save as a draft or submit to file.
