Death and Unconsciousness Flashcards
How does being reduced to 0 HP affect a creature’s initiative?
It moves immediately to just before the creature, or effect, that reduced the creature to 0 HP.
What happens if a creature is reduced to 0 HP by an enemy’s critical hit?
They gain Dying 2+Wounded, instead of Dying 1+Wounded.
What happens if a creature is reduced to 0 HP as the result of rolling a critical failure?
They gain Dying 2+Wounded, instead of Dying 1+Wounded.
What happens if a creature is reduced to 0 HP by nonlethal damage?
What happens if a creature is reduced to 0 HP by nonlethal damage?
If a creature with 100 HP takes 90 non-lethal damage and then takes 10 lethal damage, what happens?
They are unconscious and gain Dying as normal. Per rules as written, non-lethal and lethal damage are identical if they do not reduce the target to 0 HP.
What happens if a creature on 0 HP, Unconscious, and Dying takes lethal damage from a regular hit?
Their Dying value increases by 1.
What happens if a creature on 0 HP, Unconscious, and Dying takes lethal damage from a critical hit?
Their Dying value increases by 2.
What happens if a creature who is unconscious and on 0 HP, but not Dying, takes non-lethal damage?
Nothing. Non-lethal damage cannot make them Dying and they cannot be more knocked out than they already are.
What happens if a creature on 0 HP, Unconscious, and Dying takes non-lethal damage?
Per rules as written, their Dying condition increases as if it was lethal damage.
What is the DC and modifier for a recovery check?
The DC is 10 plus current Dying value, and there is no modifier; recovery checks are flat checks.
What are the possible results of a recovery check?
In order of critical success descending: Dying -2 / -1 / +1 / +2.
What happens if a successful recovery check reduces a Dying creature to Dying 0?
They gain the Wounded condition and are no longer Dying, but still have 0 HP and are still Unconscious.
How can a creature which is Unconscious and on 0 HP, but not Dying, be woken up?
By the natural passage of time, or by any healing which causes them to gain at least 1 HP.
How can a creature which is Unconscious and on 1 HP or more be woken up?
By any damage that does not reduce them to 0 HP; by healing; by being shaken awake by an Interact action; or by making a Perception check against nearby noise.
What happens if a creature which is Unconscious and on 1 HP takes damage that lowers it to 0 HP?
It takes the damage as normal. It remains unconscious and, if the damage was lethal, is now Dying.
