DDx solitary cavitary nodule/mass?

A

Most likely cancer or infection:

  1. Primary bronchogenic carcinoma: SCC & adenocarcinoma can both cavitate but SCC does it more often. Small cell never does.
  2. TB: post-primary & reactivation both produce upper lobe cavitations.

A

DDx, multiple cavitary nodules:

  1. Septic emboli: Lemierre’s, Hx IVDU, etc.
  2. Vasculitis: Wegener’s.
  3. Mets: SCC & uterine carcinoma like to cavitate.
