What are the items in the takeoff data section? (7 minimum)
Date, ACFT type, ETD, Temp Dev, Dewpoint, PA, DA, SFC Winds, Climb Winds, Local Wx/Warnings/Watches, RWY Temp
What is the temp deviation standard for KNFL?
+7 (every 500 in elevation minus 1C)
What information goes into ALTN Forecast/Remarks?
Enter remarks on weather that will affect takeoff and climb (e.g., inversions, icing, turbulence, and low-level wind shear). TEMPO lines at take-off location, etc.
When do we report Weather Warnings?
Enter any known or forecast weather watches, warnings, or advisories valid for ETD. If no watches, warnings or advisories are forecast to be in effect, then “NONE” shall be entered. The forecaster may input UNKN if no warnings are known.
What are some potential warnings we issue? (3 minimum w/ criteria)
Small Craft Warning: Sustained winds 18-33kts
Airfield Wind Advisory: Sustained winds 18-33 OR gusts of 25 or >
Gale Warning: Sustained winds 34-47kts
T2: TS within 25nm OR 6 hours
T1: TS within 10nm OR within 1 hour
What is the flight corridor?
Include weather phenomena within a minimum of 25 Nautical Miles (NM) either side the intended route of flight and surface to 5000 feet above the flight level. (Exception: Pilots shall be made aware of ALL thunderstorm activity along the intended route of flight regardless of flight level).
From where are ceiling reported? cloud tops? freezing level?
Ceiling - AGL, Cloud Tops - MSL, Freezing Level - MSL
What is reportable about thunderstorms?
Type: Area, line.
Coverage: Few, Isolated, Scattered, Numerous
What makes a thunderstorm severe?
Winds >50kts
Hail > or = 1 inch
Tornadic activity
What is reportable about precipitation?
Type, intensity and locations
What is reportable about turbulence?
Type, intensity, levels, and locations
When is the severe weather boxed checked?
SIGMET or other bulletin warning of Severe weather
What is the criteria for an alternate?
if a prevailing or TEMPO line is forecast to be less than 3000 and 3 one hour before ETA to one hour after ETA, an alternate is required.
If any of the forecasted weather is below the published field minimums for that aircraft, a 3000 and 3 or better alternate is required
What information goes into remarks? What information is always reported in remarks?
Any significant environmental data not previously entered.
Enter “Severe Weather Enroute” when severe weather is forecasted to occur along the route of flight.
