what is DCPD used for?
Applies to not-at-fault collisions, doesn’t change the vehicle’s coverage only who pays for the damage.
Who’s insurance company covers the driver?
The driver who is NOT at fault
What happens with DCPD with partial at fault collisions?
For 50/50 at fault collisions the vehicle damage will then be split between their DCPD and their collision coverage if they have purchased collision coverage
What property damage is paid for by DCPD?
Damage to the vehicle, including loss of use to the extent the driver is not at fault, and damage to contents when the contents are in the vehicle during a collision are covered and paid for by DCPD.
What are the benefits of DCPD?
Allows people to deal with their own insurance company rather than someone else’s.
It allows the claim process to function more efficiently.
Do consumers still have the right to sue?
yes. DCPD does not change the right to sue for other damages such as bodily injury or other property damage not covered under DCPD as it only applies to damage on the vehicle.
What happens with OOP drivers?
out of province drivers are not bound by DCPD. Claims involving an oop who has not signed and undertaking to be bound by DCPD then it does not apply.
What class of vehicle does DCPD apply to?
All classes including commercial vehicles.
