DCD Flashcards
What is CAD/CAM?
a field ofprosthodontics in dentistryusing CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture) to improve the design and creation ofdental restorations
What are the work process steps of CAD/CAM system?
- scanning
- designing
- manufacturing
What is digital scanning?
used to convert a physical model into digital 3D computer-aided design (CAD) file
What is intra-oral scanning?
- allows you to take a scan of the natural teeth and gingiva
- this saves you an extra work step and makes impression-taking more pleasant and time-saving than ever before
- not indicated for lower ridge due to the difficulties of tongue and saliva
What is extra-oral scanning?
- versatile and reliable aid for all digitalization tasks in dental laboratories (scanning casts)
- more indicated for complete denture construction
What is designing?
- design software analyzes the entire image and uses the results to calculate excellent restoration proposals
- this allows you to save time and arrive at the last step in the process
- manufacturing –> much more quickly
What is manufacturing?
the final step of your work process, converting your design to an accurate and well fitting estoration
What is subtractive milling?
- subtractive manufacturinginvolves material removal with turning, milling, drilling, grinding, cutting, and boring
- the material is typically metals or plastics, and the end product has a smooth finish with tight dimensional tolerances
What is 4-axis milling machine used for?
for crowns and bridges
What is wet cooling?
using coolant
What is dry cooling?
without coolant
What is the 5-axis milling macine used for?
prosthesis
What is additive 3D printing?
a process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer upon layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies
How many visits take place for DCD?
2
What is in the 1st patient visit?
- digital impression
- jaw relation by occlusion blocks
