DC Terms Flashcards
What is Direct Current?
Flow of electrons in one direction throughout a circuit with constant voltage and current
Atoms
Represent the smallest elements that exist in nature, building blocks of which all other elements are made
Protons
Positively charged subatomic particles that exist within the nucleolus of all atoms
Neutrons
Neutral subatomic particles that exist within the nucleolus of all atoms
Electron
Negatively charged subatomic particles that are located and travel around the nucleus in an imaginary sphere or shell at the speed of light
Conductor
Easily permits the movement of electrons from an electrical source to a load and back to the electrical source with minimum resistance
Insulator
Material of device used to prevent the passage of heat, electricity, or sound from one medium to another
Static Electricity
Electrical charge that may be built up on a non-conductive surface by friction
Voltage
Electric potential energy per unit charge, measured in joules per coulomb
Coulomb
Basic unit of electrical charge
Joules
The amount of electrons in a suspended state as compared to the amount of electrons in an adjacent part of the circuit
EMF
The force required to move an electron
Volt
Basic unit of measure of electrical pressure
Current
The flow of electricity
Ampere
Measure used to express the flow of electrons (current)
