DC Power Flashcards
Name the positive and negative electrode in a battery.
The outer metal case (made out of zinc) is the negative electrode. The carbon/graphite rod takes the form of the positive electrode.
How does a electrical potential difference form in the battery?
The positive ions migrate on the carbon rod and is deposited on it. The electrons can’t move and stay on the negative electrode (due to chemical composition). This causes an electrical potential difference to be created.
What attributes to contribute to how long a battery lasts?
How much charge it can store and how much charge it uses (low current drawn will make a longer lasting battery than a high current drawn.).
What’s the difference between an ideal-voltage source and a non-ideal voltage source?
An idea voltage source provides a constant voltage output regardless how much load is put on it (Vo = Vs)
A non-ideal voltage source does not provide unlimited current. It seems that there is a ‘hidden’ resistor that draws the voltage down. (Vo < Vs)
