DC Circuits (17) Flashcards
What are the properties of a series circuit
Current is equal throughout the circuit.
Total Voltage = V1 + V2
What are the properties of a parallel circuit
Total current = I1 + I2
Voltage is constant throughout the entire circuit
How to find Total Effective Resistance
Series: R = R1 + R2
Parallel: R = ( 1/R1 + 1/R2 ) flipped
Formula for R (normal formula)
R = V/I
What does a potential divider do
A potential divider divides an input voltage into two to produce an output voltage to drive another part of the circuit
Formula for Voltage output
Vout = ( R2/ R1+R2 ) x Total voltage
What is a potentiometer
A potentiometer is a variable resistor that is connected at three terminals
What are Transducers
Transducers are electrical or electronics devices that converts energy from one form to another.
What do Thermistors do
Thermistors - resistance varies with temperature. It can be used in circuits for temperature control and temperature measurement.
What happens in Light-dependent resistors (LDRs)
Light-dependent resistors (LDRs) - As the light intensity increases, the resistance of the LDR decreases. This application of the LDR can be used to measure light intensity.
