1
Q

What is the general idea behind IRMD?

A

It is to defeat the missile by hiding your heat signature and proving other IR signals for the missile to track

Q

Where are two points that you can defeat an IR missile?

A

You can either defeat the missile in the air or defeat while it is still on the rail of the bandit aircraft

Q

What is one general technique for IRMD?
How does it work?

A

One technique is to execute your break turn sub-AB.
This is because your AB plume has a larger IR signature than a flare. Thus, if you execute a break turn in sub AB your flares will provide a larger heat signature then your engine plume and become a more effective countermeasure.

Q

What does placing your POM on the attacking aircraft do for you in terms of IRMD?

A

Putting your POM on the bandit maximizes AOT and thereby denys a subsequent missile WEZ

Q

Pre-merge, what position would be better for your aircraft: A low position or a high position above the bandit? And why?

A

A low position causes the enemy to have a look down geometry for the missile. This creates a cluttered IR background picture

Q

What can you do with your break turn if you are already outside the bandit’s missile WEZ?

A

You can execute your breakturn below the bandits POM. This preserves energy and creates LOS and angles for the airborne missile to content with. Additionally, it can create IR clutter below you to further confuse the missile. Still dispense flares.
