What is enlightenment?
To realise the truth about something and understand meaning of life
What is a Sadhu?
A Hindu holy man with no belongings, he wanders around and meditates, teaching Hindu beliefs
What were Siddartha Gautama’s four sights in order?
Old man
Sick man
Dead man
Holy man
What is Dukkha?
Dukkha simply put means suffering. However it also refers to anything imperfect that leads to suffering
What are 5 of the 8 paths? and give a rough description and/or example of what a Buddhist may do to follow that path
1) right understanding/viewpoint = first step toward enlightenment. Accepting Dukkha. Begin following 8fold path
2) right attitude = mental attitude to life determines what you receive out of life. Committing 100% to 8fold path
3) right speech = everything said must be useful and not cause pain. Buddhists don’t swear, gossip, slander, argue etc…
4) right action = only do good, behave compassionately and kindly. No stealing, drugs, drinking, harming etc…
5) right livelihood = don’t choose a career that goes against the other paths and it should benefit you. Don’t be a butcher, soldier etc…
6) right effort = it takes effort and hard work. Seek good thoughts
7) right awareness/mindfulness = be fully aware/alert, reason actions and consequences. Live in the present and be aware of your surroundings
8) right concentration = letting go of desires/ cravings. Meditate. Develop wisdom through calm and positivity.

c) according to tradition, the current one is a reincarnation of the last
d) he is a very non violent person
e) he has a Nobel peace prize
What are the three marks of existence?
Anicca = impermanence = everything changes 24/7 Dukkha = suffering = nothing is perfect, suffering is everywhere Anatta = no self = there is no eternal, unchanging soul, we are just a collection of changing characteristics but the person’s Kamma (Karma) is what moves on.
What are the three poisons?
Greed
Hatred
Ignorance
What are the three medicines?
Generosity
Compassion
Kindness

1) avoid harming living things
2) only take when offered
3) avoid improper sensual activity
4) avoid improper speech
