- may make children more aggressive.
- can effect attachment styles (children who spend a lot of time in daycare may develop resistant/avoidant attachments.
What are the characteristics of a good quality daycare according to Campbell?
(AO1)
- low child to adult ration (1:3) to ensure each child gets enough attention, stimulation and substitute care.
- key workers act as a stable attachment figure who is warm and responsive to the child and also responsible for their wellbeing.
- small sized groups because it is easier for children to mix when there are less strangers.
- mixed age groups so children are able to observe “modelled” behaviours, like in a family.
- low staff turnover allows the children to form attachments and prevents feelings of insecurity.
- a structured day helps the child to feel like their environment is predictable and safe.
- well-trained staff (at least Level 2) who help aid attachment formation and provide stimulating environments for children to develop their intellectual and emotional development.
