What is a single stage overtake?
When you are able to overtake in one continuous  manoeuvre, like after a right hand bend.
What are the hazards the vehicle your are overtaking presents? (3 points)
- the size of the vehicle
- the load of the vehicle
- the drivers response to the overtake .
If the driver can’t see you before you overtake, what should you consider doing?
Flashing your headlights.
What views should you take before deciding to overtake, and why?
Views of both sides of the vehicle you are overtaking, to make sure you have a space to get back into.
What views should you take before driving to overtake and why?
Seeing both sides of the vehicle that you are going to overtake to see if there is a space that you can fit back into.
What are the three things you should consider before doing a single stage overtake?
- the need for a safe stretch of road to complete the overtake
- what’s happening Behind
- a gap that you can return into.
What is stage 1 of the 3 stage overtake?
- following position, reduce speed to follow at a safe distance whilst looking for a safe opportunity to overtake
What is stage 2 of a 3 stage overtake?
- position the vehicle to move into the overtaking position in the right lane. If a Hazard approaches, move back into the left lane.
What is stage 3 of a 3 stage overtake?
- when you have positioned the vehicle and have a clear path beyond the vehicle, if you can complete the overtake; accelerate past and move into the space.
Before joining a motorway what do you need to consider?
Slower moving by vehicles in front and faster ones behind.
What are 3 early warnings that drivers are going to overtake you?
Relative speeds
Head movements

What should you avoid before overtaking a HGV (motorway)
Being in their blind spot
What can high sided vehicles act as? (Motorway)
A wind break leading you to drift closer when the vehicle covers you, keep a from grip on the steering wheel.

What is emergency equipment used for? (4 points)
- Provide advance warning to other road users
- Help your progress through traffic
- Protect officers at the scene of incidents

What are the three options when approaching a red traffic light with all lanes full?
Stop and turn off the equipment until it’s safe to proceed
Position your vehicle to straddle the white lines and encourage drivers ahead to move betweeen the lines

If a red light is on, and pedestrian is on the road, what should you do?
Hold back to avoid intimidating them.
What is the best visual warning equipment in the day? And how should you use it?
Flashing headlights, position yourself to the offside where possible to allow oncoming drives to see you earlier.
On a multi lane road with heavy congestion, what should you do ? Blue lighting
Part the ways and go between the vehicles.

Turn off all emergency equipment until you have made a safe distance from the animal.
