Day 2 Flashcards
Target Area Tactics
Compromise between mission performance and aircraft survivability
Tactics are derived by:
Threats, Weather, Terrain, Weapons Employment Parameters, Friendly locations, Target Orientation, Artillery Gun Target lines, Laser Target Lines
High Altitude Airspace Block
Above 15,000 ft AGL
Medium Altitude
8,000 to 15,000 ft AGL
Low Altitude
500 to 8,000 ft AGL
Very low Altitude
below 500 ft AGL
The Methods of Attack
Bomb-on-Target
Bomb-on-Coordinate
Bomb-on-Target
Aircrew will acquire target
Coordinate accuracy not as important
Advantageous for moving and low-threat environments
System Readbacks are Mandatory
Bomb-on-Coordinate
Aircrew will employ weapons on specified coordinates
A/C never required to be TALLY or CAPTURED
Coordinates must be sufficient to produce the desired effect on the target
BOC Readbacks
System readback is Mandatory
BOT & BOC are based on…
Tactical Scenario…not the ordinance being employed
Overhead Tactics Ranges
3-5 NM for visual
5-6 NM for LANTIRN
7-10 NM for LITENING< SNIPER, AND ATFLIR
How do you choose IP’s
Compliment your intended FAH’s or Lasing targets
3 Attack Formations
Shooter-Shooter
Shooter-Cover
Shooter-Eyeball
Types of Delivery
Level - LGB’s and IAM’s from High Altitude
Dive - Guns, Rockets, GP Bombs
Dive Toss
Pop-up - High-Threat “non-permissive” environments
Loft
Terminal Attack Control (TAK)
Authority to control the maneuver of and grant weapons release clearance to attacking aircraft
Terminal Guidance Operations (TGO)
Actions that provide electronic, mechanical, voice, or visual communications that provide approaching A/C and or weapons additional information regarding a specific target location.
Does not include authority to clear A/C to release ordinance
Type 1 Control (Positive)
JTAC requires control of individual attacks. JTAC must have visual of attacking A/C and target
Hold clearance until A/C completed maneuvering on the target
Type 2 Control (Procedural)
Unable to visually acquire attacking A/C at weapons release
Unable to visually acquire the target
Type 3 Control (Procedural)
Multiple attacks within a single engagement
JTAC must visually acquire the target or utilize another asset
JTAC maintains abort authority
Tactical Risk Assessment
Level of acceptable risk
Failure to achieve desired effects
Potential for fratricide
Potential for Collateral Damage
