Day 1 Ohms Law Series Lecture Flashcards
Relationship between force, flow, and opposition in an electrical circuit.
State’s “ the current that flows in a circuit is directly proportional to the voltage (force) that causes it, and inversely proportional to the resistance (opposition) in the circuit is know as
Ohms Law
Horsepower is measure in
1 HP = 746 watts of electrical energy
Calculate the amount of current(amps) needed to raise 1000lbs, 6 feet in 30 seconds.
Given: Hoist uses 24 volts, the force is 1000lbs, distance is 6 feet in 30 seconds.
Step 1 Calculate HP
HP= (force)x(distance)
(550)x(time in seconds)
HP = (1000lbs)x(6ft)/(550)x(30sec)
HP = .364
Step 2
HP into Watts
1 HP = 746watts
.364HP x 746watts=
271.5 watts
Step 3
Calculate amps required
I= P/E
I= 271.5w/24v
I= 11.31 amps
No motor is 100% efficient
Calculate watts required for a 90% efficient motor to produce an output of 2HP.
2 HP x watts / 90%
HP = 746,
1492/.90
1657.8 watts is required.
A circuit consists of:A Source of ______ energy
A ______, or energy consuming device
_________ to complete the electrical path
answer;
Electrical
answer;
Load
answer;
Conductors
Two ways to complete the electrical path
- _________circuit
When a wire is used to complete the path from the load back to the source
- _________ circuit (grounded)
When a conductive structure (airframe) is used to complete the path for electrons back to the source.
Saves weight
answer;
Closed Loop
answer;
Single wire
SERIES CIRCUIT
Algebraic sum of the applied voltage and the voltage drop around any closed circuit is equal to zero.
In other words the voltage dropped across the loads of the circuit must be equal to the source.
ET = E1 + E2 + E3
Voltage adds up
Gustav Robert Kirchhoff’s voltage law
SERIES CIRCUIT
- Algebraic sum of the current at any junction of the conductor in a circuit is zero.
2.The amount of current flowing away from a point in a circuit is equal to the amount flowing to that point.
- Current remains constant
