DAX - Measures Flashcards
What is a measure?
Typically a calculation performed at the aggregate level.
When is a measure calculated?
When it is included in a visualization.
What is additivity?
How measures behave when aggregated across different dimensions
Do all measures behave the same way?
No
What are the three types of measures?
- Additive
- Semi-Additive
- Non-Additive
What are non-additive measures?
They are measures where you cannot add up each individual value and get the correct total
Examples
- Ratio’s
- Averages
- Percentages
- Average sales per customer
What should you watch out for with non-additive measures?
The result of aggregating a non-additive measure can be skewed and misleading. They should be handled with caution.
What are semi-additive measures?
Measures that can be aggregated over some, but not all, dimensions
Examples
Inventory Balance
Current Account Balance
