Why are DAW codes important?
Dispense as written. Critical in data entry. When processing medication. There might be situations when a customer asks for specific preferences such as brand only or generic only but there are also times when doctors prescription also tell that it does not matter which one of these flavors to be dispensed for a patient. Also under special conditions, there are DAW codes as a pharmacy technician must understand to never make errors on like DAW 7

Substitution is not allowed by the Prescriber. Dispense exactly as prescribed.
DAW 2
Substitution is allowed but the patient requested the brand-name drug.

Substitution is allowed, but the pharmacist selected the brand name product.

Substitution is allowed, but the generic is out of stock
